The itinerary in detail

Depart: Mirabellplatz area, central Salzburg, roughly 9:15 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. Stop 1 (20 min): Mirabell Gardens — the Do-Re-Mi steps, Pegasus Fountain, courtyard. Walk, photograph, enjoy. Stop 2 (brief): Nonnberg Abbey — view from outside or quick visit to the convent. Stop 3 (brief): Leopoldskron Palace — view from the bus across the lake. Stop 4 (20–30 min): Frohnburg Palace — exterior photographs. Stop 5 (30 min): Hellbrunn and the gazebo — walk the gardens, photograph the locked gazebo. Stop 6 (30–45 min): Mondsee — free time to walk the town and visit the wedding church (Basilica St. Michael). Throughout: Lake District countryside, on-board narration and songs. Return: Back to Salzburg, roughly 1:15 p.m. (morning tour) or 6:15 p.m. (afternoon tour).

Meals and drinks

Lunch is not included. On the full day, you have free time at Mondsee (30–45 minutes) to eat at a café or restaurant. Bring cash or a card. Water and soft drinks are available for purchase on the coach or at stops. If you want food, buy or pack a sandwich before you leave Salzburg.

Entry tickets and palace interiors

The tour views most locations from the outside or from the bus. The Hellbrunn palace interior (with trick fountains) is a separate paid entry (roughly €4) if you choose to add it; the gazebo is in the gardens (free to walk, locked to enter). Leopoldskron and Frohnburg are private property viewed from a distance. Nonnberg is a working convent; entry to the courtyard is free, modest donations welcome. Mondsee church is free to enter.

Tipping and gratuities

A tip for your guide is customary (not required). It’s common to tip €5–€10 per person if the guide was lively and knowledgeable, or less if you preferred a quieter pace. Cash is easiest; some guides also accept card payments or digital transfers if you ask.

What to bring

Comfortable walking shoes (you’ll walk 30–45 minutes total across the stops). Sunscreen and a hat (open-air stops). A jumper or light jacket (coach is air-conditioned, outdoor stops can be cool). Cash for café stops and tips. A camera or phone for photographs. Refillable water bottle (you can fill at stops).

Insider tip

The guide makes or breaks the tour. If you get a lively guide like Kylie or Jose, you’ll hear the film history and the real story side-by-side. Bring snacks and cash.
